Dara Lovitz is a passionate activist and working mother of twin daughters who cares deeply about making the world a kinder place. She’s an author, professor, presenter, and co-founding board member of Peace Advocacy Network, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes a peaceful existence through veganism, social justice, and respect for the Earth’s inhabitants and resources.

She is the author of Muzzling A Movement: The Effects of Anti-Terrorism Law, Money, and Politics on Animal Activism, Catching Falling Cradles: A Gentle Approach to Classic Rhymes, and Twinsight: A Guide to Raising Emotionally Healthy Twins.

Lovitz is an adjunct professor of Animal Law and a continuing legal education project coordinator for the American Law Institute.

She presents in various forums across the country on animal law, vegan, and parenting topics.

Sarah Love is an elementary teacher in the Cherry Creek school district in Aurora, Colorado. Inspired by her desire to help people, she knew she wanted to be an educator early on in her life. She graduated from Metropolitan State College with a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and subsequently a master’s degree in special education from Colorado University, Denver. She has been a teacher for twelve years in multiple grades. She has served as a behavior specialist throughout her career.

Alex Lockwood, Ph.D., is a writer, educator, and activist working in the fields of literature, creative writing, media, environment, and Human–Animal Studies. He has published widely on Rachel Carson and her legacy for contemporary writers. He lives in Newcastle, United Kingdom, where he writes about animals, vegan life practices, and running for the Guardian, Like the Wind magazine, Earthlines, and other publications. He is a director of the Vegan Lifestyle Association and a member of the Research Advisory Committee for the Vegan Society.

The Revd Professor Andrew Linzey, PhD, DD, HonDD, has been a member of the Faculty of Theology in the University of Oxford for 28 years. He previously held the world’s first academic post in Theology and Animal Welfare — at Mansfield College, Oxford, and at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford.

He is currently Visiting Professor at the University of Winchester, and Special Professor at Saint Xavier University, Chicago. In addition, he is the first Professor of Animal Ethics at the Graduate Theological Foundation, USA.

From 1987 to 1992, he was Director of Studies of the Centre for the Study of Theology in the University of Essex, and from 1992 to 1996, he was Special Professor in Theology at the University of Nottingham. In 1998, he was Visiting Professor at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From 1996 to 2007, he was also Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham.

Professor Linzey has written or edited 30 books and more than 100 articles. His work has been translated into many languages, including Italian, French, Polish, Spanish, German, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese. He has lectured and broadcast extensively in Europe and the United States. In 2001, he was awarded a DD (Doctor of Divinity) degree by the Archbishop of Canterbury in recognition of his “unique and massive pioneering work at a scholarly level in the area of the theology of creation with particular reference to the rights and welfare of God’s sentient creatures.” This is the highest award that the Archbishop can bestow on a theologian and the first time it has been awarded for theological work on animals. In 2006, he was placed on The Independent’s “Good List’ of 50 people who have changed Britain “for the better.” In 2010, he was awarded the Lord Erskine Award from the RSPCA for advancing animal welfare within the Christian community.

Ray Leonardini is a former lawyer who practiced government and nonprofit law for nearly 30 years. After his retirement, he turned toward his foremost area of interest: the Christian contemplative tradition. For the last nine years, as a volunteer chaplain, he has led meditation groups and taught contemplative prayer and the spiritual journey at Folsom State Prison in California. He is also the Director of the Prison Contemplative Fellowship, an association of current and former prison inmates, chaplains, and volunteers committed to reaching out to prisoners and their families on their travels along the spiritual path.

Tobias Leenaert is a longtime speaker, trainer, strategist, and the co-founder of the Belgian organization EVA (Ethical Vegetarian Alternative), the first vegetarian/vegan organization to receive structural funding from a national government. Under Tobias’ management, EVA launched a successful campaign that resulted with the city of Ghent becoming the first city ever to officially support a weekly vegetarian day. Tobias gives animal advocacy trainings worldwide together with Melanie Joy, for the Center of Effective Vegan Advocacy (CEVA). He is also co-founder of ProVeg, an international pro-vegan organization with the mission to reduce the global consumption of animals by fifty percent by the year 2040. Tobias lives in Ghent, Belgium, with his partner, two dogs, and six cats. His website is

Wendy Lee is the author of the novels The Art of Confidence (Kensington), Across a Green Ocean (Kensington), and Happy Family (Black Cat/Grove Atlantic). Happy Family was named one of the top ten debut novels of 2008 by Booklist and awarded an honorable mention from the Association of Asian American Studies.

A graduate of Stanford University and New York University’s Creative Writing Program, Lee has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and the Corporation of Yaddo. She spent more than a decade in the publishing industry as an editor at HarperCollins Publishers and Lantern Books in Brooklyn, where she co-edited the anthology Defiant Daughters: 21 Women on Art, Activism, Animals, and the Sexual Politics of Meat. She has also worked as an English teacher in China, taught writing at the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, and served as a mentor with Girls Write Now.

Lee is the second-generation daughter of immigrants from China. She lives with her husband and son in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, New York City.
